Welcome!
I’m so glad you’re here. The number of people with gastrointestinal issues is growing at an alarming rate. Inflammation and pain in your stomach (gastritis) or irritation anywhere in your digestive tract is not normal. It hurts. Due to where it is located and our conditioning not to talk about anything related to poop we have been shamed and suffering quietly (well, kind of quietly).
Additionally, an overproduction of hormones can wreak havoc on your body. From an early age women should be educated regarding their menstrual cycle, hormones and how to eat to ensure a healthy shedding of the uterine lining. Stomach cramping, nausea, pain, and headaches should not be considered normal, nor should missing days from school and later, work. Cystic acne where patients have the unenviable choice of antibiotics, the pill or even steroids to clear up the painful condition was something I could see first hand with my students and my own child. Further, the psychological effects of having to live with the cystic acne can make patients feel self-conscious. For those readers who want a natural solution to healing this Newsletter is for you.
Stress and overactive adrenals, again, not normal. And while we live in a country with available healthcare, the lack of prevalent and well known information regarding our digestive system, how to eat and feel satiated while keeping ourselves healthy seems to be a big fat secret. There are a multitude of intestinal health issues where there does not seem to be one obvious cure. You may have tried medicines and changing your diet and still have digestive tract pain. You may have purchased a skin care routine and you see no difference in the redness, acne and irritation. It may feel like there is no simple remedy and it can even be depressing. Part of the answer is to grow a community of people committed to learning, shining a bright light on what is working - food as medicine - and sharing solutions so pain is not considered normal life. This is why I’m here, and presumably why you are, too.
Here’s my deal. I will be providing you with a weekly Newsletter. The subject is all about beans and what they can do for you. This is the reason I am writing on this platform. To share all of the ways you can heal with beans. There may be bonus content, an additional tab, to document what the hell is going on behind the scenes. Since I am new to creating in this space and other social media “Start with Beans” accounts I will share whatever I can to help those who may want to give writing a try and give you the information you need to jump over mistakes I may be making, daily.
In return, please subscribe and share this with others who may benefit from the information. (And, if you can, support this effort with a paid or gift subscription-not yet available.)

Who I am
I’ve had a full career in education…teaching and administration. After a quarter of a century I pivoted. Using my research background in education to find answers to my chronic gastrointestinal issues, inflammation, GERD, lower back pain, hyperparathyroid...the list was growing. Prescriptions created additional pain and I was at a point where almost anything I ate hurt my stomach.
The research and people who shared it helped to fully heal my body in the spring, summer and fall of 2022 and I continue to eat simple, whole foods to keep my body, mind and spirit healed. I also physically move my body each day. I love to learn and then pay it forward. I spent years plowing ahead on sheer will and determination knowing my body was not well but not willing to stop long enough to figure it out. The more people who discover this information and use it, the more people do not have to live in pain. I enjoy cooking and I will include my recipes that I have used to integrate beans into my daily meals. Cheers!
